Rexline | Amazon Web Services

After a 15-year break from the tech industry to focus on family, Rexline knew she wanted to return to a field she had always been passionate about but re-entering a fast-moving industry like IT wasn’t easy.

“Even though I spent those years self-learning and keeping up with new technologies, I struggled to get noticed by employers. My CV lacked recent experience, and I didn’t have a clear way back into the industry.”

Rexline joined Generation Ireland’s AWS re/Start bootcamp in 2023, looking for a structured route back into tech — and found far more than she expected.

“The bootcamp helped me build real, hands-on experience with cloud technologies. I was excited to learn AWS from the ground up — it was new territory for me, but the structured learning and support from the team helped me grow in confidence. Python was also new to me, but I soon became comfortable using it to automate workflows.”

Rexline secured a contract role at Marsh McLennan in Dublin shortly after completing the programme, working as a Disaster Recovery Analyst. Over the next 18 months, she automated critical disaster recovery processes using services like Lambda, Systems Manager and DRS, helping minimise downtime and enhance system resilience.

Recently, she accepted a permanent role at the same company as a Cloud Operations Engineer, where she designs AWS QuickSight dashboards and continues to develop real-time monitoring systems.

“I love what I do. I’m working in a space that’s meaningful, challenging, and constantly evolving. The support I’ve received from my team has been incredible — and I’ve already completed a FinOps certification to deepen my skills.”

For Rexline, the impact of gaining employment has been profound.

“Financially, things have changed completely. I can contribute to my household, help pay off debt, and start saving for my daughter’s education. It’s a huge weight off my shoulders. But more than that, I feel like myself again. I’ve regained confidence, independence, and a sense of purpose.”

Looking ahead, Rexline is focused on expanding her cloud expertise beyond AWS, with plans to explore Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure.

“This role has given me the foundation to keep growing. I no longer see work as something I used to do — I see it as a space where I can thrive.”
