bhamika case study

Returning to tech with confidence and purpose

Before joining Generation, Bhumika (38) had taken an intentional career break to focus on her family. When she decided to return to work, she was determined to rebuild her career in tech, but found that explaining a gap in employment made it difficult to secure opportunities.

“My biggest hurdle was getting my CV shortlisted. The career gap created an artificial barrier, making it difficult to secure initial interview calls despite my dedication and underlying skills.”

Recognising the need to refresh her technical skills and demonstrate her readiness for the workplace, Bhumika enrolled in Generation’s IT Support bootcamp in Dublin in March 2026.
The programme provided an opportunity to build practical, hands-on experience while strengthening the confidence needed to return to the tech sector.

“Joining the bootcamp allowed me to bridge that gap, gain hands-on, practical experience, and build the confidence needed to re-enter the tech industry successfully.”

For Bhumika, one of the most valuable aspects of the programme was the supportive environment and the opportunity to develop both technical and professional skills.

“The Generation bootcamp did so much more than just sharpen my technical IT skills. It truly rebuilt my confidence from the ground up.”

Through mock interviews, collaborative learning, and employability training, she developed greater confidence in her abilities and learned how to effectively communicate her experience to employers.

“I finally managed to shake off the imposter syndrome that had built up during my career break. Generation’s structured support and incredible organisation gave me the tools, resilience, and push I needed to own my experience and step back into the tech world with pride.”

Shortly after graduating, Bhumika secured a role as a Data Migration Deployment Specialist within the digital healthcare sector.

In her role, she supports the transfer of critical healthcare data from legacy systems into modern digital platforms. Her work involves deploying data migration tools, validating data integrity, troubleshooting technical issues, and working closely with technical teams and stakeholders to ensure smooth and secure system transitions.

The opportunity allows her to combine technical problem-solving with meaningful work that supports healthcare services.

“Stepping into the digital health space is incredibly motivating. Knowing that the data migration work I do directly supports healthcare providers and patient systems gives my daily work a clear sense of purpose.”

As she continues to develop her career, Bhumika is excited by the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues, build her expertise, and take on increasingly complex projects.
Securing employment has had a significant impact on both her confidence and wellbeing.

“Getting this offer completely restored my self-belief. It proved that my gap didn’t erase my potential, and that feeling of self-worth coming back is priceless. On a practical level, having a steady income again brings such a deep sense of relief. It means being able to support my family without that constant underlying stress, treats for the kids without second-guessing every euro, and finally putting money aside to build a secure future for us.”

For Bhumika, the experience has reinforced an important lesson that she hopes to pass on to others.

“More than anything, it fills me with pride to show my family that no matter how long you step away, with the right determination, you can always pick yourself back up and build something amazing.”
