Sean’s Journey from Unemployment to a Career in Solar Energy

Before joining Generation’s first Solar Panel Installer bootcamp in Ireland, Sean faced significant challenges re-entering the workforce. 

“I was out of work for an extended period due to some personal challenges. I had some prior experience in construction, but I needed an opportunity to gain new skills and build a sustainable career.

One of the biggest challenges was finding a job that genuinely interested me. Additionally, living in rural Ireland presented transportation difficulties, which made it harder to access suitable job opportunities.” 

Sean joined the Generation bootcamp in December 2024, with a strong motivation to learn.

“I was particularly excited to understand the technical knowledge behind solar panels and different installation methods. Gaining a broader understanding of the industry was a key motivation for me. I was also excited to improve my computer skills

Working with data was quite complex, especially coming from a non-electrical background. However, the continuous support from the Generation team really helped me overcome these challenges and build confidence in my abilities.”

Upon completing the programme in February 2025, Sean quickly secured a role as a Junior Solar Installer at Sav Electrical Systems.

 “I really appreciate the opportunities for growth that this job provides. Being on-site allows me to gain hands-on experience and continuously expand my practical knowledge. I’m also excited about the potential for future progression within the industry.

Through the bootcamp, Sean gained more than just technical skills…

 “The bootcamp has given me a new perspective on modern technology and the growing opportunities in this industry. It has also significantly boosted my confidence in re-entering the workforce. I’ve developed essential computer skills and gained a better understanding of the technical aspects of installations. Overall, I feel much more prepared and motivated to advance in my career.

Although I’m still in the early stages of starting my new career, I already feel a sense of excitement about the opportunities ahead. This opportunity has opened doors for me to acquire new skills, explore different roles within the industry, and work in a sector that values creativity and innovation. 

In the long run, I hope to continue developing professionally and take advantage of future career advancements in this growing field.”
