Dylan | IT Support
After experiencing unemployment and struggling to break into the highly competitive IT sector, Dylan knew he wanted a career in tech, but finding a clear pathway into the industry felt overwhelming.
“I was unemployed, I found the IT sector to be incredibly difficult to enter within the past year. The market seemed to be worse than it’s ever been before.”
Dylan joined Generation Ireland’s IT Support bootcamp looking for practical skills and a way into the tech industry. For Dylan, participation in this bootcamp transformed both his technical abilities and professional confidence.
“The IT Support with Cybersecurity bootcamp truly allowed me to develop my soft skills, which before I had greatly underestimated the importance of. These transferrable soft skills have allowed me to excel in my new workplace and are what I believe made the difference for me finding employment.”
“Having access to a mentor who has had vast amounts of industry experience within IT for 9 weeks gave me the opportunity to learn practical skills that can actually be applied to industry, and not just like traditional academic environments where the learning material often doesn’t reflect industry practices and workflows. I’ve never felt more prepared for job hunting than I have after graduating from Generation.”
Just one week after graduating, Dylan secured a role at eBay as a Global Customer Protection Operations (GCPO) Risk Teammate. In this role, Dylan focuses on account security, risk assessment, and policy enforcement – helping protect customers from fraud and social engineering attacks.
“My day-to-day tasks often involve communicating with our customers who have had their accounts compromised, and ensuring their accounts get reinstated safely. I deal with bad actors often, who attempt to deploy social engineering tactics whilst on the phone and are trying to gain access to accounts. I enjoy these calls as I can apply my learning from Generation here with security best practices.”
For Dylan, gaining employment has had a profound impact beyond career progression.
“Being able to support myself again financially after long-term unemployment is incredibly freeing, and thus has had a major positive impact on my mental health. I can afford private health insurance which was previously inaccessible to me, and this has been a massive benefit Looking ahead.”
Dylan is now focused on deepening his expertise within cybersecurity and continuing to build a long-term career in technology.
In 2026 Dylan was selected as Ireland’s representative for the Generation Global Alumni Ambassador’s Council, where he’ll help shape the future of programmes and benefit from exclusive skills training.
